This conference
was born as a result of the idea to connect my students
with first hand information on some of the most important
issues in the industry today: customer service excellence,
sustainability and environmental issues.
The connection with their studies is clear, with all speakers focusing to provide information which will benefit student’s work in the classroom, covering a wide range of BTEC Travel and Tourism units. Each year, at least two foreign destinations will be introduced in presentations, while this year’s additions included the stands providing students with information as well as materials to take away.
Since all attending delegates were vocational students, great importance was placed on guidance in future career opportunities, which reflects in a new Career’s Desk provided on the day.
This was also the perfect opportunity to promote communication amongst colleges in the South and a chance to exchange ideas.
To give this conference a heart, I decided to make it
a charitable event and help poured in, therefore I am
especially grateful to our sponsors, whose generosity
has made this event possible. All proceeds will be split
equally between IFAW and Winchester Cancer Research.
I know we will achieve even more next year.
Most of all, I wish to mention Jan Hoy, my inspiration
and mentor, especially during the last two years, since
the idea of ‘Tourism Speak-Easy’ was born. Her advice
and belief in me gave me guidance and strength to persist
in making this event reality.
Jan, you are a star!"
